woman walking on a straight clear path

CDC Certified Divorce Coaches® know and understand first-hand the impact that divorce can have on individuals and families. They bring compassion and confidence into their coaching and enable their clients to focus on the business part of divorce rather than become overwhelmed at the emotional aspect of the process. Unlike other divorce coaches, CDC Certified Divorce Coaches® help their clients learn to make better decisions from the very beginning of the process, to avoid the biggest mistakes in divorce, and to be confident that they have a thinking partner throughout the whole process, so they don’t have to struggle alone!

Imagine sitting in front of a client who has dissolved in a wave of emotions, recounting the dozens of offenses that her spouse has committed in their 11-year marriage, and wanting answers about why she should suffer because of his selfishness, his thoughtlessness and his lack of respect for the family.

You take a deep breath and say…….

What do you say in this situation?

You have set aside 50 minutes to talk with this person and are feeling overwhelmed by the overwhelming circumstances she is describing, and you are wondering, “how long is she going to keep on talking, out of control, and angry about everything!”

You want to be compassionate and tell her that someday she is going to feel better about all of this!  That you have been just where she is and that you can share with her your journey.

That would be a big mistake!  In fact, that would be just the opposite of what you should do.

What you do next is very important – and it is very counter-intuitive.

Of course, you want the quick answer. We all do.  But the answer is so counter-intuitive that you won’t believe it.  You won’t trust me if I tell you until you have experienced it!  That is the hallmark of the CDC Certified Divorce Coach Program, experiencing what the client will experience and learning that counter-intuitive really works!

Dispute resolution has everything to do with the ability for the client to stop digging their heels in and to be able to reframe their view of what they want so they can clearly define what they need and be able to hear the logic of the facts or the numbers.

Divorce Coaching is a dispute resolution process. As you learn new approaches to effectively work with clients who seem irrational and out of control, you will find a new confidence and real compassion is supporting them to move toward the solution that serves them better on the other side of the divorce process.
